IMPRESSIVE HISTORY

There are more than 600 castles in Wales, more per square mile than anywhere in the world. Some have been lived in continuously for a thousand years, while others are romantic ruins.

Many are native Welsh castles, built by Welsh royal dynasties, often in very beautiful places. You will have an opportunity to visit the surroundings of the retreat and visit some spectacular local castles!

WATERFALLS

As a country carved by glaciers in the last ice age, the landscapes in Wales comprise mountains, valleys and an abundance of waterfalls.

Waterfalls in Wales are often steeped in legends and myths and are rumoured to be the entrance to magical fairy kingdoms.

MORE SHEEP THAN PEOPLE

Wales has the largest number of sheep per person in the United Kingdom, it has its indigenous breeds of sheep and its sheepdog breed. Recent figures state that there are over 10 million Welsh sheep compared to 3 million people, an approximate 3 to 1 ratio (3 sheep for every 1 person in Wales).

The fields and hills around Abergavenny are home to lots of wildlife and agriculture.
